What types of events do you provide music for?
Any and all. Although the majority of my work is wedding oriented, I provide music for all types of functions. Over the years I have worked for clubs and Inns providing music for all sorts of groups. In addition, I have done all types of dances, birthday parties, anniversary parties and corporate functions. Some of my corporate clients have included Central Maine Power, Good Will Industries and General Motors to name a few.
What kind of experience do you have with weddings?
I have experience in mobile Disc Jockey services for around 15 years and have experience in radio as well. I have an educational background in both broadcasting and business. About 90% of my services are wedding receptions. I enjoy my work and also enjoy being involved in weddings as each one is a unique experience. I have done well over 400 weddings throughout the years. Everything from low key events on a small budget, to upscale and elaborate affairs. I've provided music in all sorts of places from backyards to reception halls to Inns like The Captain Daniel Stone Inn in Brunswick and The McKernan House in South Portland. I have brought my services to hundreds of locations throughout southern and central Maine and up and down the coast.
Do you work with out of state clients?
Most definitely. The Internet is a great resource and many clients discover my services this way. I have planned events with clients from as far aways as England, Canada, California and many other locations throughout the United States. Clients from outside the state of Maine are very common and I am quite used to long distance planning. Between email, phone conversation and fax machines I can help any client plan an event regardless of their location.
What kind of equipment do you bring with you?
I work with quality, name brand equipment and yes I do bring back up. I have always trusted Peavey as my main source of PA equipment for both sound quality and durability. My microphones, cables and music decks vary but most are Pioneer, Sony, Sure and Gemini. I use the best technology available to both store and play music for all types of events.
What is your style when you DJ an event? Some DJs bring lighting and props, do you? I tell people that I can provide any type of "Master of Ceremonies" style that you wish. Typically I interact with the crowd in an upbeat and fun fashion where and when it applies and is appropriate. Every event is a party. As far as the type of party...Well, that is entirely up to the client and should match the vision that they have in mind. I can tell you that I don't do magic tricks, I don't have inflatable props and I don't do balloon animals. Unless instructed otherwise, I interact with the crowd appropriately, encourage interaction and fun - and of course I take requests. In other words, I'm very involved - but not obtrusive. Although I rarely receive requests for wedding reception dance lighting, I do offer dance lighting with any booking. In most cases lighting is used for dances and other specialty functions, however, it's always an option and is available upon request. Remember, this is your event and you definitely have choices!
What type of music do you have in your collection?
I bring thousands of selections to each event that include big band, swing, rock, hip hop, country, oldies, disco, reggae, pop and much more. In a nutshell, I have a full scope of music to apply to any event. From the 1930's to 2008. If there are special 'must have' songs, I will obtain them if I do not have them. Again, I gladly encourage requests and I definitely discuss music in advance for any event as everyone has their favorites and their not-so-favorites as well.
Do you coordinate with the caterer, photographer, etc., to make sure that everyone is on the same page?
I am very accessible to all other vendors/service providers/coordinators/etc., for any event. If it applies, I will compare all notes and itinerary with the photographer as well as the establishment, catering staff and anyone involved.
What are your rates?
I would encourage you to call or email for affordable and reasonable rates. My rates are fairly standardized, however, I do like to know some basic information (date and location for instance) in order to provide accurate pricing. There are sometimes factors and scenarios that aren't as common as others that need to be addressed and it's always nice to have a little background. I work hard to maintain competitive fees for my services and recognize that Disc Jockey pricing can sometimes be shocking for some people. I try very hard not to shock. I have been doing this for many years now and no longer invest time and money in expensive advertising and bridal shows. This helps to keep my costs a bit lower and allows me to focus on my clients, services and service to my clients. Much of my work comes from referrals thanks to past and present clients along with the many other service vendors, event planners and coordinators that I have worked with over the years.
Can you furnish references?
Absolutely. Call or email for a reference and information packet. It includes reference contacts, reception and event planning information along with a sample contract and other miscellaneous details that will be helpful in both making your decision and planning your event. I would be happy to mail this information out to you immediately upon request.
